Another successful Emer Casey Memorial Run took place in Youghal on an ideal evening for runners on 4th April 2019. Over 370 runners competed for the top prizes, running the route through the centre of Youghal and encouraged all the way by enthusiastic onlookers. Almost 100 walkers enjoyed a new route along the boardwalk with beautiful sea views on a crisp evening for walking. Everyone was delighted to see the Foundation’s patron Sonia O’Sullivan at the finish, willing them over the line. See Sonia speak about what the run means to her here.
James McCarthy of East Cork Athletics took the honours at the finish in a time of 15:16 and the first woman home was Aoife Cooke of Youghal Athletic in 16:52. See the full list of results here with thanks to Cork Athletics and Youghal Athletics Club. And enjoy some fantastic action shots of the evening here courtesy of Dave O’Brien Photography. The Examiner published a wonderful photo of the prize presentation to James McCarthy by Brendan Casey.
The Foundation would like to thank all the hard working volunteers who made the race possible again this year and the people of Youghal for their unstinting support. The goodwill of all who participated was palpable in the community Centre afterwards as everyone tucked into the well-earned refreshments. Well done everyone!
